Another Day

My day started off just like any normal day and stayed that way. I did the usual, take the children to school and headed off to work. Nothing special happened until I got a call from my son’s school telling me, “your son is sick here in the clinic.” I drove over to the school to pick him up. He didn’t look sick but I took him home and guess what? He wanted to play with his XBox. SHHHHHHIDDD nope! I had him study his spelling words and then we started drawing.

Hurricane Ernesto?!!

Again, here we go again. Another hurricane that is supposed to hit us and what happens? Nothing. One of the things I hate about the local media and national weather service is their coverage of hurricanes. They make eveyone go out and spend money on supplies which most of us don’t use during the course of the year. WSVN channel 7 uses about 72 hours of coverage showing the same stories and saying, “make sure you get supplies.” Now for most of us who have their supplies, we don’t like spending 3-5 hours putting up shutters or plywood over windows and sliding glass doors just to find out that the predictions were wrong. Not just wrong but WAAAAY OFF! I know they dont know for sure whats going to happen with these storms but come on!, find a better way of doing it.

Last year this kept happening, storm after storm, prepare, prepare, prepare and then no storm. Finally, when Wilma was going to hit most people were done buying another batch of supplies, so caught most of us off guard. Power was out from the Keys through St. Lucie county. What are we supposed to do? With the economy the way it is, a lot people can’t afford all these excess bills / payments / supplies. I think the next time I’m going to wait until the “storm” is less then 12 hours away before I go to the extreme I normally do.
